Extraction

Special Fluids for the extraction industry

The extraction industry can be split into 2 segments :

  • Extraction of edible oils
  • Extraction of minerals such as uranium, copper and nickel

Edible oil extraction

Hexane is used to extract edible oils from crops such as soy bean and sunflower seeds. The TOTAL Special Fluids range includes two Hexane grades, distinguished by their minimum n-hexane content, which are widely used by international companies active in this industry.

Mineral extraction

Solvent extraction (SX) processes are widely used to recover uranium, copper, nickel, cobalt, rare earths and other elements. The choice of the diluent is an important factor in the safety and efficiency of the entire extraction process. The hydrocarbon solvent chosen may influence aspects such as extractant compatibility, transfer kinetics, and separation velocity and plays an important part in the safety of the extraction plant.
For solvent extraction processes, TOTAL Fluids offers not only classical aromatic-containing and dearomatised Kerosene fractions from the KETRUL range, but also special grades such as HYDROSEAL G232H, which combines enhanced safety due to its high flash point (>100°C) with low environmental impact due to its low evaporation rate.
